Kris Davis (US)

Kris Davis (born 1980 in Vancouver, Canada) is a pianist, composer and lecturer. After 18 years in New York, she has been living in Boston since 2021, where she teaches composition and contemporary improvisation at the Berklee Institute for Jazz and Gender Justice. Kris Davis is an amazing and dynamic artist who uses diverse musical idioms with equal conviction. At the Monheim Triennale, she will present her "Emergence Quartet" for the first time in Europe.

DownBeat Magazine named Kris Davis a "Rising Star Pianist" in 2017 and the New York Times article "New Pilots at the Keyboard" (2012) dubbed her one of the top up-and-coming musicians with the recommendation: "One way to decide where to go on a night out to listen to jazz is to look for pianist Kris Davis."

Their duo album "Octopus" (2018) inspired Michael J. Agovino of Village Voice to comment "...no other piano duo has ever played with the kind of freedom and grace, informality and emotion that Kris Davis and Craig Taborn do on their new album 'Octopus'..." Their release "Duopoly" (2016) made the New York Times, Pop Matters, NPR, LA Times and Jazz Times best albums of 2016 list. Their current album "Borderlands Trio" (2021) is also highly praised by the press.
